Women's Varsity Sends 20 Past Aurora in Sweep of Spartans

The Women's NCAA team traveled to Illinois this weekend to take on the Aurora Spartans in a two game series.

Kristi Zink got things started for the Bulldogs at the 7:13 mark of the first period on Friday night. Freya Holferty and Olivia Fox would assist on Zink's goal. Brooke Lupi would send home a powerplay goal to put the Bulldogs up 2-0 in the first ten minutes of play. Tory Harshman and Kelly O'Sullivan would assist. The Spartans would grab a powerplay goal of their own minutes later to cut the Bulldog lead in half. Jacqueline White would answer with a goal of her own on the powerplay at the 17:58 mark of the first period. Lupi and Brooke Schembri would assist on White's goal. After one, the Bulldogs had a 3-1 lead.

White would grab the first of four second period goals at the 1:16 mark of the second period. Holferty would grab the lone assist. Maggie Mitter would net a shorthanded goal three minutes later to give the Bulldogs a 5-1 lead off of assists from Zink and O'Sullivan. Rose Krasofsky and Savannah Veri would both grab powerplay goals in the final ten minutes of play to give the Bulldogs a commanding 7-1 lead heading into the final twenty minutes of play.

Krasofsky's second of the night would be the first of the third period at the 5:23 mark. Schembri and Brianna Buchanan would be awarded assists. Veri's second powerplay goal of the game would come at the 13:18 mark of the third with assists from Mitter and Tory Harshman. Veri would complete her first collegiate hat trick off of an unassisted effort at the 16:31 mark of the third.

Final score Friday night would be 10-1 in favor of the visiting Bulldogs with Kate Turner picking up the win between the pipes.

Brooke Schembri would grab the first Bulldog goal Saturday afternoon at the 10:10 mark of the first period. Rylee Bates and Shelly Czarnowczan would assist. Kelly O'Sullivan would grab her first of the weekend at the 15:17 mark of the first period with assists going to Czarnowczan and Brianna Buchanan. After one, the Bulldogs would hold a 2-0 lead.

Kristi Zink's second of the weekend kicked things off in the second period at the 1:16 mark off of an assist from Freya Holferty. Brooke Schembri would add one eight minutes later with the lone assist going to Kortney Diaz. A shorthanded unassisted goal from Olivia Fox would make thing 5-0 in Aurora to close out the second period of play.

Maggie Mitter would grab the first of five third period goals for the Bulldogs. Bates would be awarded the lone assist. O'Sullivan's second of the night would come on the powerplay at the 15:01 mark of the final frame with assists going to Tory Harshman and Jacqueline White. Czarnowczan would pick up her first of the weekend a minute later with assists going to Schembri and Lexi Grunden. MacKenzie Kamm would score at the 17:11 mark to put the Bulldogs up by 9 with the lone assist going to White. Harshman's first of the weekend would make things 10-0 off of an assist from O'Sullivan to close things out for the weekend.

Final score Saturday would be 10-0 in favor of the Bulldogs with Kate Turner picking up the shutout win for the Bulldogs.

The Women's NCAA team is back in action the first weekend of January when they head to Vermont for the East/West Classic. They are back at Arrington Ice Arena on January 19th against the Lake Forest Foresters.
