WD2 Sweeps Northern Michigan to Go 10-0-0

The WD2 team faced off against CCWHA opponent the Northern Michigan Wildcats this weekend in a two game home series.

Liz Anderson would start off the scoring Saturday morning for the Bulldogs. Summer Patterson and Cece Werner would grab assists. Erika Gilbert would add an unassisted goal at the 15:11 mark to make it 2-0 Bulldogs in the first. The Wildcats would score with 1:00 remaining in the first to cut the Bulldogs lead down to 1.

Maria Granger wasted no time regaining the two goal lead in the second frame, scoring 46 seconds into the period. Gilbert and Cristina Rotundo would assist on Granger's goal. The Wildcats would once again cut the Bulldogs' lead down to 1 with 1:32 remaining in the final frame. The two teams would head into the third with the Bulldogs leading 3-2.

Katie Hayward would make it 4-2 Bulldogs 3:12 into the final frame with assists from Hannah Chase and MacKenzie Heisner. The Wildcats would make it 4-3 at the 13:55 mark of the third before MacKenzie Heisner gave the Bulldogs a more comfortable 5-3 lead at the 17:34 mark of the third.

Final score Saturday morning at Arrington Ice Arena would be 5-3 in favor of the still undefeated Bulldogs with Victoria Poland picking up the win for the Bulldogs.

The two teams would be back at it again 24 hours later at Arrington Ice Arena once again.

The Wildcats would strike first this time on Sunday morning with the lone goal of the first period. Katie Hayward would tie things up 24 seconds into the second period of play with her second of the weekend. Hannah Chase would snag the lone assist on Hayward's goal. Emily Letke would give the Bulldogs the 2-1 lead at the 7:27 mark of the second period with Chase picking up the lone assist once again. The Wildcats would tie things up before the end of the period and the two teams would head into the third deadlocked at 2 a piece.

MacKenzie Heisner broke the tie at the 2:30 mark of the third period to give the Bulldogs the lead once again. Erika Gilbert would grab the lone assist on Heisner's goal. The Wildcats would tie things at 3 at the 9:40 mark of the third. Hayward would once again break the tie at the 10:43 mark of the third with assists going to Gilbert and Heisner. The Wildcats would tie things up at 4 with 38 seconds remaining in the game to send things to overtime.

Gilbert would give the Bulldogs their first overtime goal in program history at the 2:08 mark of the overtime period to send the Bulldogs into break with a perfect 10-0-0 record.

Victoria Poland would once again pick up the win for the Bulldogs in between the pipes.

The Bulldogs head into Christmas Break with a perfect 10-0-0 record, the best record to start a program in Adrian Hockey history.

The Bulldogs look to keep the streak going on Sunday, January 21st when they travel to Flint to take on the University of Michigan Flint. The Bulldogs will be back at Arrington Ice Arena on January 27th when they face off once again with the Central Michigan Chippewas.
