Men's Varsity Grabs Four Points Over Weekend


The Men's NCAA team took on two different league opponents this past weekend at Arrington Ice Arena.

The College of St. Scholastica Saints would come to town first on Friday night to take on the Bulldogs.

The Saints would grab the lone goal of the first period at the 7:46 mark of the first period. The Bulldogs would tie things up at one at the 4:19 mark of the second period off of a powerplay goal from sophomore forward Dino Balsamo. Braden Hellems and Cory Dunn would snag assists on Balsamo's goal. Brian Bachnak would give the Bulldogs their first lead of the night at the 10:23 mark of the second off of assists from Austin Rust and Vinny Post. After two periods of play, the Bulldogs would have the 2-1 advantage.

Kyle Brothers would net his third of the season at the 10:43 mark of the final frame. Cameron Cooper would be awarded the lone assist on Brothers' goal. Trevor Boyd would add an empty net goal with 1 second remaining in the game to ensure the Bulldog victory.

Final score Friday night at Arrington Ice Arena would be 4-1 in favor of the Bulldogs with Dillon Kelley picking up his second win in his second start of the season.

The Northland Lumberjacks would come to town Saturday afternoon for the second game of the two game weekend.

Taylor McCloy would score a shorthanded goal off of a beautiful pass from Matt McNair at the 5:40 mark of the second period after a scoreless first. McCloy's goal would be the lone goal of the period and the home team would have the 1-0 lead heading into the final 20 minutes of play.

Trevor Boyd would give the Bulldogs a more comfortable two goal lead five minutes into the final frame. Vinny Post and Cameron Cooper would be given assists on Boyd's goal. McNair would strike shorthanded off of assists from Cory Dunn and McCloy at the 12:32 mark of the third to close out the scoring.

Final score Saturday afternoon would be 3-0 in favor of the Bulldogs with Kevin Entmaa picking up the shutout win for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs travel to Wisconsin Steven's Point Tuesday, December 12th and Wednesday, December 13th to face off against the Pointers before heading out East for the Codfish Bowl at the end of the month. The Bulldogs return to Arrington Ice Arena on January 6th at 7:05 pm when they face Utica College.
