MD1 Ends Semester with a Sweep of Oakland University
The MD1 team took on Oakland University in a home-at-home series this weekend to end the first semester.
The Bulldogs first played host to the Grizzlies on Thursday night for Military Appreciation Night at Arrington Ice Arena.
Oakland struck first at the 10:55 mark of the first period. Marcus Rose would even things up five minutes later off of a beautiful play from Rainer Glimpel and Jordan Oshowy. Joe Costello would send home what would end up being the game winning goal less than a minute later to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead. Score after one would be 2-1 in favor of your Bulldogs.
Brad Kobryn's 20th of the season would be the lone goal of the second period of play. Costello and Marcel Kottek would be awarded assists on Kobryn's goal. After two, the Bulldogs now had a 3-1 lead.
Kobryn would strike once again at the 1:54 mark of the third period with assists going to Oshowy and Costello. Cooper McLean would grab on 7 minutes later to put the Bulldogs up 5-1 over the visiting Grizzlies. Rose would add a pair in the final 2:31 to complete the hat trick and give the Bulldogs a 7-1 lead. Glimpel and Dominic Moore would assists on Rose's second of the game and Glimpel and Kobryn would assist on his third.
Final score at Arrington Ice Arena would be 7-1 in favor of the Bulldogs with Mike Barrett picking up the win in net.
The Bulldogs would travel to the Onyx Ice Arena in Rochester, Michigan on Friday night to take on the Grizzlies for their final game of the semester.
Brad Kobryn would grab the lone goal of the first period for the Bulldogs. Chris Donaldson and JP Grineau would snag assists on 22nd of the season. After one, your Bulldogs would have a 1-0 lead.
The Grizzlies would even the score on a 5 on 3 in the second period to send the two teams into the final frame deadlocked at 1 a piece.
Grineau would break the tie and score the eventual game winner at the 1:16 mark of the first period on the powerplay. Donaldson would add one of his own four minutes later to give the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead. Marcus Rose would tally his fourth in two games on the powerplay at the 19:39 mark of the third period. Joe Costello and Marcel Kottek would each be awarded assists. Cooper McLean would round out the scoring with 7 seconds remaining in the game. Mark Fratarcangeli and Archie McKinnon would grab assists.
Final score Friday night would be 5-1 in favor of the visiting Bulldogs with Austyn Roudebush picking up the win in net.
The Bulldogs are back at Arrington Ice Arena January 13th and 14th when they play host to Syracuse University.
