MD1 Sweeps Robert Morris in First Top 10 Tilt of the Season
The #3 ranked MD1 team took on #9 Robert Morris (Ill.) this past weekend at Arrington Ice Arena in their first top 10 tilt of the season.
JP Grineau kicked things off on Friday night, scoring his first of the season off of a blast from the point on the powerplay. Marcel Kottek and Marcus Rose would assist on Grineau's powerplay tally. The Bulldogs would hold the 1-0 lead over the Eagles through the end of the first and head into the second up by a goal.
Austin Kuhn's second of the year made it 2-0 Bulldogs in the second period of play. Joe Costello and CJ Nicholson would grab assists on Kuhn's goal. Dominic Moore would add another before the end of the second with assists going to Justin Fisher and Rainer Glimpel. After two, the Bulldogs would be up 4-0.
Jordan Oshowy's first goal as a Bulldog would be the final Bulldog goal of the game, coming at the 8:37 mark of the third and final period. Moore and Josh Hosking would tally assists on Oshowy's first. RMU would grab their lone goal of the game at the 15:46 mark of the game, but the Bulldogs would come out on top of a 5-1 score. Austyn Roudebush would grab the win in net for the Bulldogs.
Brad Kobryn would start the scoring Saturday afternoon with a powerplay goal 21 seconds into the first powerplay of the game with his team leading 7th goal of the season. Marcus Rose and Marcel Kottek would grab assists on Kobryn's goal. After one, the Bulldogs would have a 1-0 lead once again.
Marcus Rose would give the Bulldogs a more comfortable 2 goal lead in the second period, Kobryn would snag the lone assist on Rose's goal. Dan Stone would grab a shorthanded breakaway for his first goal as a Bulldog in the second period to put the Dawgs up 3-0. RMU would grab two powerplay goals at the end of the second to cut the lead for the home team down to 3-2.
Kobryn grabbed his second of the game 30 seconds into the third and final frame on the powerplay to give the Dawgs a 4-2 lead. Kottek and Grineau would assist on Kobryn's second of the night. The Eagles would tie the game at four with 12:32 to play in the third with two goals in two minutes. Dominic Moore would be the hero, scoring the game winning goal with 1:35 left to play in the game with Mike Barrett picking up the win between the pipes.
Final score Saturday afternoon would be 5-4 Bulldogs as the MD1 team swept their third opponent of the season. The Dawgs are back at Arrington Ice Arena with a big series against fierce rival Davenport University this Thursday night for Rivalry Night at 7:15 pm.
