WACHA Sweeps UMass in First ACHA Series of the Season
#3 ranked WACHA took on #5 ranked UMass Amherst this past weekend in their first regular season series of the 2017-18 season on Saturday and Sunday.
The Minutewomen on UMass struck first on Saturday night but grad student Jessie Rushing would even the score three minutes later for the first Bulldog goal of the season. Junior Olivia Ziemba and freshman Brooklynn Moore would tally assist on Rushing's goal.
Freshman Olivia Pollari's first collegiate goal would put the Bulldogs up 2-1 in the second period of play. Pollari's goal, the only goal of the period, was assisted by juniors Kaillie Hardy and Nicole Paradis.
Paradis would grab a goal of her own at the 6:22 mark of the third period. Hardy and Moore would be awarded assists. Sophomore Britt Levasseur would add the fourth and final goal of the game at the 8:00 mark of the third period with the lone assist going to Rushing.
Final score Saturday night would be 4-1 in favor of the Bulldogs.
The Minutewomen struck first once again thirty seconds into the second period on Sunday afternoon. Junior Kirstin LaBelle would tip in her first goal of the year to even the score three and a half minutes later to tie the game at 1. Sophomore Kylee Wilson would grab the lone assist. Kaillie Hardy would grab her first of the season at the 12:42 mark of the second, giving the Bulldogs the lead on an unassisted effort. Freshman Kelly Rae Zdan's first Bulldog goal would give Adrian the 3-1 lead eighteen seconds later off of an assist from sophomore Maddy Arnold. Olivia Ziemba would add her first of the season two minutes later to give the Dogs a 4-1 lead. Britt Levasseur would grab the lone assist on Ziemba's goal.
Levasseur would grab her second in two games in the third, scoring the lone goal of the final frame at the 12:04 mark with the assist going to Ziemba.
Final score Sunday afternoon would be 5-1, once again in favor of the home team.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Friday, October 20th on the road against Grand Valley State University. The Bulldogs are back at Arrington Ice Arena the next day, Saturday, October 21st at 4 pm.
