MD1 Scores 13, Sweeps Kent State


The MD1 team took on the Kent State Golden Flashes this weekend in a home at home series.

The first game took place here in Adrian at Arrington Ice Arena on Friday night. The Flashes took the first lead of the night at the 5:26 mark of the first period. Brad Kobryn would strike five minutes later to even the score up at one with assists going to JP Grineau and Mike Finger. Archie McKinnon would rip a shot from the blue line that would find its way over the shoulder of the Kent State goaltender 1:30 later to give the Dawgs the 2-1 lead. After the first period, the home team would have the 2-1 advantage.

A pair of goals from Joe Costello in the second period would make the Bulldog lead 4-1 in the first 15 minutes of the second period. Chris Donaldson and Marcel Kottek would grab the assists on Costello’s first goal and Dominic Moore would be credited with the lone assist on the second goal. Mike Finger’s first goal as a Bulldog would make it 5-1 with 1:48 left in the second period. Dan Stone and JP Grineau would grab the assist on Finger’s first as a Bulldog. After forty minutes of play, the Dawgs were up 5-1.

Kobryn’s 131st career goal and team record tying 196th point would come 1:08 into the third period of play. Costello and Kottek would grab assists on the record breaking goal. Austin Kuhn would grab his first as a Bulldog three minutes later with assists going to Jordan Oshowy and Josh Hosking. Rainer Glimpel would close out the scoring with a beautiful top shelf goal at the 7:40 mark of the final frame. Assists on Glimpel’s goal would be given to Kyle Perkowski and Mike Finger.

Final score at Arrington Ice Arena would be 8-1 with Mike Barrett picking up his first win of the season in his season debut.

The Bulldogs would travel to Kent, Ohio on Saturday night to take on Kent one more time in the regular season.

Archie McKinnon would score his second in as many games at the 13:41 mark of the first to give the Bulldogs the first lead of the game. Austin Kuhn and Joe Costello would tally assists on McKinnon’s goal. The rest of the period would be scoreless with the Dawgs leading 1-0 going into the second period.

Brad Kobryn would tally point 197 at the 4:18 mark of the second period with his 132nd career goal to take sole possession of the team’s all time points in a career record. Mike Finger would grab an assist on the historic goal. JP Grineau would send one home with 1:18 remaining in the period on the powerplay. Finger and Marcus Rose would tally assists on the powerplay goal. After two, your Bulldogs would have the 3-0 lead.

Mark Fratarcangeli would tally his first of the season with 8:13 gone in the final frame, Rose would be awarded the only assist on the goal. Rose would score the final goal of the game three minutes later with assists going to Kobryn and Finger. Final score in Kent would be 5-0.

Austyn Roudebush would earn his third win of the season along with his third shutout with the win on Saturday night as the Bulldogs completed their second sweep of the season.

The Dawgs are back in action next weekend as they face Robert Morris Illinois Friday night at 7:00 pm and Saturday afternoon at 3:00 pm.
