MD2 Shuts Out Detroit Fighting Irish in Season Debut
The ACHA MD2 team took on the Detroit Fighting Irish of the USPHL for their first game this season to kick off the 2017-18 campaign at Arrington Ice Arena.
Freshman Ondrej Tomek would strike twice in the first twenty minutes of play with junior Robert Bathory and sophomore Kyle Boerner each grabbing the lone assist on the two goals. Junior Brandon McLean and freshman Nick Mooney would both also net goals before the first twenty minutes had gone by, putting the Bulldogs up 4-0 heading into the middle frame.
Sophomore Phil Grippi would put the Dogs up by 5 with 5:17 gone in the first period, scoring from the top of the circles for his first of the season. Freshman Hayden Winch would grab his first as a Bulldog six minutes later with assists going to junior Adrien Sebag and freshman Nick Stanko. Freshman Justin Session would also grab his first as a Bulldog in the second off of an assist from fellow freshman Ben Hamilton. Tomek would complete the hat trick at the 18:19 mark of the second with the lone assist going to Hamilton. After two, the Bulldogs were up 8-0.
Freshman Brett Siewertsen would close out the scoring for the Bulldogs in their first game. Final score would be 9-0 Bulldogs with senior Drake Koegel and freshman Keeghan Harvey earning a combined shutout in their first outing.
The MD2 team is back again on October 5th at 7:00 pm when they face off against the University of Toledo in their first regular season game.
