MD1 Kicks off Exhibition Schedule with a Shutout
The MD1 team took on the Chicago Cougars of the USPHL this Friday afternoon for their first of two exhibition games at Arrington Ice Arena this season.
Sophomore Marcus Rose wasted no time getting things going for the Bulldogs, scoring the first goal of the season at the 25 second mark of the first period. Senior Brad Kobryn would tally the lone assist on Rose's goal. Sophomore Rainer Glimpel would strike five minutes later off of an assist from freshman Kyle Perkowski. Freshman Austin Kuhn would tally his first as a Bulldog at the :22 mark of the first off of an assist from fellow freshman Chris Donaldson to put the Dawgs up 3-0 to end the first period.
Kuhn would grab his second of the night at 3:07 of the second period with sophomore assistant captain JP Grineau. Freshman Mike Finger would also grab his first as a Bulldog in the second period with assists going to Kobryn and fellow freshman Austin Azzinnaro. Sophomore Mark Fratarcangeli would score 38 seconds later off of an assist from senior Zach Armstrong. Glimpel would grab another at the 11:28 mark of the second with assists going to Armstrong and sophomore Marcel Kottek. Freshman Dan Stone would score 59 seconds later, tallying his first as a Bulldog with an assist going to fellow freshman Matt Matyi. Kuhn's third of the night would close out the scoring for the second period with sophomore CJ Nicholson grabbing the assist. After two periods, the Dawgs would be up 9-0.
Junior Cooper McLean would score the tenth and final goal of the game at the 8:03 mark of a penalty ridden third period and the Dawgs would grab their first W of the season by a score of 10-0.
The D1 boys are back at it again tomorrow at 1:00pm at Arrington Ice Arena against Indiana in their final exhibition game before their home opener on 9/28.
