Brooke Gibson Drafted to the Canadian Women's Hockey League's Toronto Furies

A sixth Women's Varsity alum could be making her professional debut this season, this time with the Canadian Women's Hockey League.

Goaltender Brooke Gibson, who backstopped the Bulldogs all the way to the National Championship game this past season, was drafted in the 12th round (79th overall) of the Canadian Women's Hockey League draft on August 20th, 2017.

Gibson came to Adrian from the Bluewater Hawks of the Provincial Women's Hockey League in Ontario, Canada. She appeared in 48 games for the Bulldogs in her four years at Adrian, earning the role of starting netminder in her senior season and playing in 21 games this past year.

She backstopped the Bulldogs to their second straight SLAATS Cup this past season and propelled the Bulldogs through back to back overtime games in the NCAA Tournament to take the team to their first National Championship game appearance.

"It's an amazing feeling knowing hard work pays off, and it's a huge step forward for girls hockey and I am honored to have the opportunity to be a part of it, and to have the ability to continue my career," said Gibson, who appeared on the CWHL's social media accounts with the other draftees from this year's draft, which included 113 girls in total.

"I am very proud and excited for Brooke," said Adrian head coach Chad Davis, "Toronto has selected a great person , teammate and player that will do whatever it takes to be successful."

The Canadian Women's Hockey League was founded in 2007 and this year will feature the Toronto Furies, Calgary Inferno, Vanke Rays, Kunlun Red Star (China), Les Canadiennes de Montreal, Boston Blades and Marham Thunder.

Gibson is the sixth Women's Varsity Alum to go pro. Hannah McGowan ('15) and Sarah Connelly ('13) both made their pro debuts in the 2015-16 with the Buffalo Beauts of the National Women's Hockey League and EC Bergkamener Bären of Frauen-Bundesliga in Austria and Kaylyn Schroka ('17), Sarah Shureb ('17) and Kristin Lewicki ('17) will all be playing for the Beauts as well this season.
