MD1 Goes 2-1 Over Weekend: Falls in GLCHL Final
MD1 travelled to Kent, Ohio this past weekend to take on the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League Playoffs after winning the regular season title.
The Bulldogs would first face the eighth seeded Oakland University Grizzlies on Friday night for the quarterfinals. A hat trick from Marcus Rose and single goals from Dominic Moore, Chris Derochie and Sam Johnston would propel the Bulldogs to a 6-1 victory to advance to the semifinal game.
The Bulldogs faced the Kent State Golden Flashes on their home ice Saturday afternoon in Ohio for the semifinals. Marcus Rose would strike first in the first period. Dominic Moore would bury a goal of his own three minutes later to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. Kent State would pull within one before the first would end and then tie the game in the second period. JP Grineau would give the Bulldogs the lead once again before the second period came to a close. The Bulldogs would hold on to the one goal lead and take the semifinal game by a score of 3-2.
The final game of the weekend was against the University of Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines on Sunday afternoon. The Wolverines would go up by three goals before Marcus Rose buried a pass from Justin Fisher in the second period to get the Bulldogs on the board. The Wolverines would score once again in the second to go up 4-1 after two periods of play. Tyler Lepore would snag his first of the playoffs in the third period to put the Bulldogs within two. The Wolverines, however, would score two more unanswered goals to take the game from the regular season champions.
