MD1 Thumps Eastern; Sweeps the Eagles


The Men’s ACHA D1 team took on the Eastern Michigan Eagles in a home at home series this weekend.

Thursday night was hockey night in Adrian as the Bulldogs played host to the Eagles. Chris Derochie would be the first to find the back of the net at the 7:58 mark of the first period. Derochie’s goal would be assisted by Brad Kobryn and Rainer Glimpel. Dominic Moore would give the Bulldogs the two goal lead at the 14:17 mark assisted by Nik Sakellaropoulos and Tyler Lepore to close out the scoring for the first frame.

Sam Johnston would pick off a pass for a shorthanded goal to begin the scoring of the four goal second period. Johnston’s shorty thirty seconds in was assisted by Zach Armstrong. Glimpel would grab one seven minutes later, extending the lead to 4-0. Glimpel’s goal was assisted by Derochie and Kobryn. Nick Goettel would grab a goal off of a shot from the point at the 10:35 mark for his fourth of the season. JP Grineau and Mark Fratarcangeli would assist on Goettel’s goal. Marcus Rose would score the fourth and final goal of the period at the 18:16 mark assisted by Moore and Lepore.

Kobryn would grab a goal of his own at the 3:37 mark of the third, picking a corner and sneaking it past the goaltender’s shoulder to put the Bulldogs up 7-0. Kobryn’s goal was assisted by Grineau and CJ Nicholson. Sakalleropoulos would grab a goal of his own at the 9:48 mark of the third. Johnston would tally the lone assist. Justin Polischuk would send it top shelf for a beauty of his own to close out the scoring for the night. Polischuk’s goal was assisted by Kyle Boerner and Sakalleropoulos.

Final score at Arrington Ice Arena would be 9-0 and Michael Barrett would earn his 4th shutout of the season and 12th win and the Bulldogs 13th straight.

The Bulldogs would travel to Ann Arbor to face the Eagles on their home ice the next night. Brad Kobryn would start the scoring on Friday night, notching his first of the night at the 1:13 mark of the first. Tyler Lepore would grab the lone assist. Kobryn would grab another five minutes later off of an assist from Chris Derochie for his 25th of the season. Kobryn would complete the natural hat trick 8 minutes later off of an assist from Nik Sakalleropoulos. Score after one would be 3-0 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Cooper McLean would grab his second of the season at the 5:15 mark of the second. Assists would go to Michael Tratar and Nick Goettel. Ted Anstett would score a minute later to make it 5-0 Bulldogs. Justin Fisher and JP Grineau would assist on Anstett’s goal. Score after two would be 5-0 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Marcus Rose would grab his first of the night 2:13 into the third period. Goettel would be awarded the lone assist. Eastern would grab their first two goals of the series at the 2:13 and 3:57 marks of the third. McLean would answer back for his second of the night at the 12:18 mark, assisted by Adrien Sebag.

Final score Friday night was 7-2 in favor of your Bulldogs.

Through the first four games of the new semester, the MD1 team has outscored their opponents 25-4 and outshot them 199-68, including a whopping 142 shots against Eastern Michigan in a two game span. The Bulldogs’ second victory was their 14th straight victory and makes their overall record 22-1.
