The Boys Are Rollin': MD1 Cruises Past Indiana Tech


The Men’s ACHA D1 team squared off against the Indiana Tech Warriors for a home at home series to kick off the second semester of the 2016-17 season this past weekend.

The Warriors played host first as the Bulldogs travelled to Fort Wayne on Friday, January 13th for their first game since December 2nd, a win against Oakland University.

Dominic Moore struck first at the 11:42 mark of the first period for the first lead of the game. Marcus Rose and newcomer Tyler Lepore would grab assists on Moore’s tally. Brad Kobryn would add a powerplay goal at 16:45 to give the Bulldogs a more comfortable 2 goal lead. Kobryn’s tally would be assisted by Lepore and Josh Hosking.

The Bulldogs would be held scoreless through the next twenty minutes as the Warriors tied the game at two a piece before the buzzer rang. The two teams would head to the final frame deadlocked at 2-2.

Kobryn would once again be the hero 5:39 into the third on another powerplay goal, his 113th career tally and 36th career powerplay goal. Goaltender Michael Barrett would earn the lone assist on Kobryn’s eventual game winning goal. Justin Fisher would add an insurance goal, once again giving the Bulldogs a more comfortable two goal lead on an unassisted effort. Rainer Glimpel would score the final goal of the game at the 12:33 mark of the final frame. Final score in Fort Wayne would be 5-2 in favor for the boys in black and gold.

The two teams would meet again twenty four hours later at Arrington Ice Arena. The first twenty minutes would go by scoreless before Chris Derochie would break the tie at the 7:42 mark of the second. Brad Kobryn would tally the lone assist on the Derochie goal. Forty minutes would go by and the Bulldogs would hold on to the 1-0 lead.

Tyler Lepore’s first as a Bulldog would give the home team a two goal lead 1:28 into the final frame. Marcus Rose and Dominic Moore would assist on Lepore’s first as a Bulldog. Justin Fisher would strike for the second time in two games with a goal of his own at the 6:09 mark of the third. Mark Fratarcangeli and Nik Sakellaropoulos would assist on Fisher’s goal. As the clock ran down, tensions ran high as the Bulldogs and Warriors combined for a total of 22 minutes of penalties in the third including a ten minute misconduct. The fans that packed Arrington would see some 3-on-3 hockey in the third where Rainer Glimpel would tally the final goal of the night. Glimpel’s goal was assisted by Moore and Nick Goettel.

Final score Saturday night would be 4-0 in favor of the Bulldogs, giving them their 20th victory in 21 games and their 12th straight victory since dropping a one goal decision to Davenport in October. Michael Barrett would earn the victory on Friday night to improve to an 11-0 record in his rookie season. Austyn Roudebush would see his first action of the season on Saturday, earning the shutout for the Bulldogs.
