D3 Gold Obliterates Northwood; Sneaks by Grand Valley for a 4 Point Weekend
The D3 Gold team took on Northwood University and Grand Valley State University this past weekend, facing Northwood at home and Grand Valley away on Saturday and Sunday.
The Bulldogs scored 6 goals in the first period on Saturday night. Chase Whallon began the scoring, crashing the net and sending home the first goal only 1:08 into the game. Mario Tomei and Joe Laskero tallied assists on Whallon’s goal. Nick Bordeaux sent home his second short handed goal of the season 5 minutes later with Paul Gorski and Mitch Bancroft grabbing assists. Michael Butler would give the Bulldogs a five goal lead with 10:52 gone in the first, Bordeaux and Phil Grippi would be awarded assists on Butler’s goal. Kyle Schulz, Paul Gorski and Mario Tomei would all grab goals in the first as well. Jordan Ruelle, Joe Gibbs, Bordeaux, Butler, Grippi and Andy Petersmark all grabbed assists on the three goals. After one, the Bulldogs had a commanding 6-0 lead.
Whallon grabbed his second of the night 25 seconds into the third period, Laskero and Gibbs grabbed assists on his second goal. Gorski would grab his second of the night in the second as well, scoring at the 2:22 mark. Grippi and Bordeaux would be awarded assists. Bordeaux would grab another one at the 3:25 mark with Grippi and Bancroft assisting. Laskero would grab a goal of his own at the 3:38 mark with assists going to Grippi and Matt Froats. Jack Clary would tally his first of the night at the 6:50 mark with assists from Trevor Benaglio and Petersmark. After two, the Bulldogs were leading 11-0.
Whallon grabbed his hat trick goal 32 seconds into the third period off of assists from Laskero and Ryan Betz. Brandon McClean grabbed his first of the night at the 2:14 mark of the third with assists from Alex Egan and Kyle Schulz. Northwood would grab their lone goal of the game at the 12:22 mark of the third. Gorski would complete the hat trick with 15:17 gone in the final frame. Tomei and Bordeaux tallied assists. Gibbs would close out the scoring, scoring the 16th and final goal of the game at the 17:03 mark with Ruelle and Clary with assists. Final score was 16-1.
The Bulldogs travelled to Grand Valley State University the next afternoon, where they beat the Lakers 3-2. Jack Clary, Nick Bordeaux and Michael Butler all tallied goals in the victory
The Gold team comes back to AIA on Friday, November 11th at 3:00 pm when they face the Cardinals of Saginaw Valley State University.
