Women's ACHA Sweeps Grand Valley State University
The Women’s ACHA team took on the Grand Valley State University Lakers this past weekend in a home-at-home season to begin their regular season.
The Bulldogs took the lead early on in Grand Rapids on Friday night. Sophomore forward Kirstin Labelle would score the first goal of the season at the 14:07 mark of the first period. Freshman forward Brittany Levasseur would grab the lone assist on Labelle’s first goal. The Bulldogs would keep the 1-0 lead until 13:46 into the third when Labelle lit the lamp yet again to give the Bulldogs a more comfortable two goal lead. Junior defenseman Sabrena Camp would be awarded the lone assist on Labelle’s second of the night. The Lakers would pull within one with less than three minutes remaining in the contest, but junior goaltender Alison Dungey would stop 24 of the 25 shots she faced to backstop the Bulldogs to a victory and big two points.
The Bulldogs once again took the first lead of the game the next night in Adrian. Freshman defenseman Jessica Harrison would notch her first collegiate goal at the 14:10 mark fo the first period to give the Bulldogs the first lead of the game. Senior forward Jessica Fabbro would notch the assist on Harrison’s powerplay goal.
Adrian would hold onto the one goal lead once again until the second period when forward Jessie Rushing buried her first of the season, giving the home team a two goal lead. Levasseur and sophomore forward Nicole Paradis would grab assists on Rushing’s goal. Fabbro would grab a goal of her own seven seconds later and the Bulldogs would have a comfortable three goal lead. Sophomore forward Kaillie Hardy grabbed the lone assist on Fabbro’s goal.
The Bulldogs held onto the three goal lead as Alison Dungey stopped all 19 shots sent her way to give the Bulldogs the sweep and 4 big points for the weekend against a Central Collegiate Women’s Hockey Association opponent.
The Bulldogs travel to Davenport University in Grand Rapids this Friday night to face the Panthers in the first game of their home-at-home series. The Bulldogs are back at Arrington Saturday night at 7:00 pm to face the Panthers once again.

3***Kirstin Labelle: Sophomore forward Kirstin Labelle scored two goals Friday night in a 2-1 victory over the Lakers, giving the Bulldogs a crucial win over a conference opponent.
