#10 Men's ACHA DI Sweeps #3 Stonybrook

The #10 Men’s ACHA DI team took on #3 Stonybrook SeaWolves on Octoboer 7th and 8th at Arrington Ice Arena to open their regular season at home.
The SeaWolves struck first at the 6:46 mark of the first period of the first game. The Bulldogs, however, would tie things up with 1:41 left in the period. Freshman Marcel Kottek’s shot from the point would take a few crazy bounces and end up in the back of the net to tie the game at one a piece.
The SeaWolves would grab a one goal lead on the powerplay after the Bulldogs were sent to the box for hooking at the 4:22 mark of the second. The SeaWolves would then go up by two at the 13:54 mark of the middle frame. The Bulldogs would pull within one with 6 seconds remaining in the period when Justin Fisher sent home his first of the year. Freshmen JP Grineau and Rainier Gimple would grab assists on Fisher’s tally.
The third period of the first game would be relatively quiet with no penalties or goals until 13:20 gone in the final frame. Senior Ted Anstett would tie the game with less than ten minutes remaining to force overtime. After a scoreless extra five minutes, the two teams would go to a shootout. The first three shooters from both teams would not score. It was all up to freshman Marcus Rose as the fourth shooter to score or the game would be over. Rose would get one past the goaltender to tie the shootout. Senior goalie Matt Schnoes would block the fifth shooter’s attempt and freshman Rainier Gimple would score to win the first game for the Bulldogs.
The first frame of the second game was scoreless, however, the Bulldogs would outshoot the SeaWolves. Senior Josh Hosking would break the deadlock with 50 seconds remaining in the middle frame. Hosking’s goal was assisted by Nick Goettel and Marcus Rose.
Goettel would grab his own goal 3:34 into the final frame to give the Bulldogs a 2 goal lead. Two minutes later, freshman Mark Fratarcangeli would snag his second goal as a Bulldog. Fratarcangeli’s goal was assisted by Nick Sakellaropoulos and Marcus Peters. Justin Polischuk would give the Bulldogs a commanding 4 goal lead six minutes later with assists going to CJ Nicholson and goaltender Michael Barrett.
The Bulldogs are now 4-0 on the season and will be back at Arrington Ice Arena on Thursday, October 13th at 7:00 pm to take on the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

1*Michael Barrett: The Freshman goaltender shut-out the #3 ranked team in the country Saturday and managed to pick up an assist as well to go 2-0 in his college career.
2**Matt Schnoes: The goaltenders stole the show this weekend. Schnoes backstopped the Bulldogs to the shootout victory, stopping 4 of 5 shots in the shootout.
3**Justin Fisher: The junior forward Fisher sent home the goal that pulled the Bulldogs within one with only 6 seconds remaining in the middle frame of the first game for his first of the season.
