Why DIII Day One: Chase Matson

Every year, the NCAA Division III shines a light on DIII athletes with Why DIII? week, April 4-10. This year, I've decided to feature a player from our NCAA hockey teams, much like I did with our ACHA players over the course of the season, this week and ask them Why DIII and Why Adrian? My first featured player is freshman forward Chase Matson. Matson finished his rookie season with the Bulldogs with 2 goals and 9 assists for 11 points and 31 penalty minutes.

- Where did you play before Adrian?

I played for the Soo Eagles in the North American Hockey League (NAHL)

- Why did you choose Adrian?

I chose Adrian because the success of the hockey team and I wanted to be apart of future success

- Was Adrian your first choice?

Yes, Adrian was my first choice

- Were you considering playing for a DI school? If so, what made you choose DIII?

I wanted to play D1 hockey like everyone but I am glad I made the decision to come to Adrian it was by far the best choice I’ve made.

- What’s your favorite part of playing hockey here at Adrian at the DIII level?

My favorite part of playing at Adrian is being able to play in front of my family every home game and being able to throw on that Adrian Jersey every game.

- What’s your favorite memory of your experience here at Adrian so far?

My favorite memory in my first year at Adrian would have to be winning the Harris Cup at home. There are no words to describe the feeling celebrating with the fans.
