Senior Ellyn Stanton Posts Back to Back Shutouts in Sweep of Ohio State


The Women’s ACHA team held their final two home games at Arrington Ice Arena this past Saturday and Sunday against Ohio State University. The Bulldogs would honor their 11 graduating seniors on Saturday night and senior netminder Ellyn Stanton would backstop the Bulldogs to back to back shutouts both days to end the regular season with a sweep.

Senior Captain Nichole Laflamme began the scoring on Saturday night at the , picking up her ninth goal of the season. Seniors Summer Frey and Katie Barnes would grab assists on Laflamme’s goal. Jessica Fabbro would make it 2-0 six minutes later, Summer Frey and Kayla Vanston would pick up assists on Fabbro’s goal. The Bulldogs would head to the locker room with a 2-0 lead and without allowing a shot on goal the entire twenty minute period.

Lauren Hughes gave the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead 8:30 into the second period, Jessie Rushing would snag the lone assist on Hughes’ goal. Prior to Hughes’ goal, the Buckeyes would pick up their first shot of the game 28 minutes into the contest. The Bulldogs would strike two more times before the period ended, getting goals from Nicole Paradis and Kaillie Hardy. Nichole Laflamme and Virginia Matherly would grab assists on Paradis’ goal and Hardy’s goal would be assisted by Kaylee Harnen and Demi Russo. After two, the Bulldogs were up by 5.

The final goal of the game was scored by Jessica Fabbro at the 2:42 mark of the third period. Fabbro’s goal would be assisted by Alex Godre and Shannon Osland. The Bulldogs would maintain their shutout for the final twenty minutes, killing off a 5-on-3 for the last 1:48 of the final frame to earn senior Ellyn Stanton her 3rd shutout of the season.

The second game of the series was a lower scoring affair, with only three goals scored the whole game.

Alecia Tait scored first for the Bulldogs, sending home her eighth goal of the season. Tait’s goal was unassisted. Tara Wreblis would notch her first of the season two minutes later, giving the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead after the first period. Wreblis’ goal would be assisted by Marisa Shepard and Kaylee Harnen. Tait would strike once again in the second period while the Bulldogs were on the powerplay. Tait’s second of the night was assisted by Paige Fuoco and Marisa Shepard.

The Bulldogs would once again shutout the Buckeyes, the final score would be 3-0 and Ellyn Stanton would post back to back shutouts on senior weekend. The Bulldogs face off against the Grand Valley State University Lakers tonight, Saturday night, at Crystal Field House in Burton, Michigan for the CCWHA Playoffs.
