Men's Varsity Sweeps Concordia (Wisc.) On Senior Weekend


The Men’s Varsity team played host to the Concordia (Wisc.) Falcons on February 12th and 13th for their final home series of the regular season.

Adam Davies began the flurry of scoring in the first game of the series at the 7:12 mark of the first period. Davies’ goal was assisted by Taylor McCloy and Kyle Brothers. Austin Hervey would give the Bulldogs a comfortable 2-0 lead less than two minutes later, Hervey’s goal was assisted by Cory Dunn. The Bulldogs would score on the powerplay and while shorthanded before the period would end. Chris Leone would pick up the powerplay goal at the 10:54 mark with assists going to Cory Dunn and Kyle Brothers and Bryan Yim would strike shorthanded at the 17:45 mark. Yim’s goal would be assisted by Jeremy Olinyk. The Bulldogs would hold a commanding 4-0 lead after the first period of play.

Bryan Yim struck three times more in the second period, the first of which came only 12 seconds into the frame. Yim’s second of the night was assisted by Mathew Thompson while on the powerplay. Yim’s hat trick goal would be scored at the 7:24 mark of the second period with the assists going to Connor Armour and Adam Davies. Yim’s record tying fourth goal of the game would be scored ten minutes later with assists going to Brian Bachnak and Cory Dunn. Yim tied a school record set back in 2008 by Sam Kuzyk and Eric Miller on 2/15/08 and 2/16/08 against the Concordia Falcons. After the second, the Bulldogs had a dominating 7-0 lead.

Five Bulldog goals were scored by five different players in the third period. The first of the five was scored by Connor Armour at the 1:25 mark of the final frame. Assists on Armour’s goal would go to Brent Sauve and Bryan Yim. Daniel Lisi would score at exactly 7 minutes gone in the third with assists on his goal going to Chase Matson and Jeremy Olinyk. Cory Dunn would send home the second powerplay goal of the night 59 seconds later, scoring the tenth Bulldog goal of the game. Chris Leone and Kyle Brothers would grab assists on Dunn’s powerplay tally. Brent Sauve would add an 11th goal 16 seconds after Dunn’s, giving the Bulldogs an 11-0 lead in the third with Bryan Yim snagging the lone assist. The Falcons would spoil Kevin Entmaa’s shutout at the 11:25 mark of the third, scoring on the powerplay. Brett Pinkerton would score for the Bulldogs six minutes later, giving the Bulldogs a dozen goals on an unassisted effort. Concordia would score once more with 1:30 left in the game and the final score would be 12-2.

Prior to the second game of the series, the Bulldogs honored their four graduating players: Pat George, Chris Leone (A), Adam Davies (C), and Brent Sauve in a pregame ceremony.

Taylor McCloy would begin the scoring for the Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon, tallying his eighth goal of the season on the powerplay, tipping a Chris Leone shot into the net at the 16:37 mark of the first period. Leone and Cory Dunn would pick up assists on McCloy’s powerplay goal. The Bulldogs would once again capitalize on the powerplay at the 19:20 mark. Austin Hervey would give the Bulldogs the 2-0 lead with assists on Hervey’s powerplay goal going to Kyle Brothers and Cory Dunn. After one, the Bulldogs were leading 2-0.

Josh Shellman’s first career goal as a Bulldog would give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead 2:06 into the second period. Shellman’s goal was assisted by Trevor Boyd. Taylor McCloy would grab his second of the game ten minutes later off of a diving shot, Jeremy Olinyk would grab the lone assist on McCloy’s ninth of the season. After two, the Bulldogs would be up 4-0.

Brett Pinkerton would grab his second in as many games at the 3:25 mark of the second period, Brent Sauve and Adam Davies would assist on Pinkerton’s goal. The Falcons would tally their only goal of the game while shorthanded at the 8:38 mark of the third period, spoiling goaltender Tyler Parks' shutout hopes. Austin Hervey would send home his second of the night eight minutes later, giving the Bulldogs a commanding 6-1 lead. Jeremy Olinyk and Daniel Lisi would grab assists on Hervey’s goal.

The Bulldogs improve to 19-3-1 overall after the sweep and will play two more games next weekend against the Saints of the College of Saint Scholastica to close out the regular season before chasing after their 7th Harris Cup title in 9 years in March and ultimately, the NCAA National Championship.
