Men's ACHA D1 Tops Western Michigan in Shootout

The Men’s ACHA D1 team took on the Stallions of Western Michigan University for the fourth and final time this season on Saturday, January 30th at Arrington Ice Arena.
The Bulldogs would grab the first lead of the night at the 8:55 mark of the first period when Nick Balavich tipped in defenseman Nick Goettel’s shot from the point. Goettel would grab the lone assist on Balavich’s goal. The Stallions would tie the game with 17:29 gone in the first and pull ahead by one with 18:21 gone. After the first, the Bulldogs would be down 1-2 with forty minutes of play remaining.
Brad Kobryn would tie the game for the Bulldogs at the 8:02 mark of the second period, Ted Anstett and Erik Alden would tally assists on Kobryn’s tying goal. The score would remain deadlocked at two after two.
The Stallions would once again pull ahead by one at the 8:24 mark of the third period. After many quality shots and scoring attempts, a point shot by Erik Alden would find its way to the back of the net with three minutes remaining in the third period.
After a scoreless overtime period, this game would be heading into overtime. Chris Derochie, Matt Schwehr, and Brad Kobryn would all have their shots denied by the Stallions goaltender and Matt Schnoes would stonewall all of the Stallions shooters before Zack MacKay would be the hero, scoring in the fourth round of the shootout.
The Bulldogs are back at Arrington Ice Arena this Saturday, February 6th, at 7pm when they face off against the Rochester College Warriors.
