D3 Gold Downs GVSU on Senior Night
The Men’s ACHA D3 Gold team took on the Lakers of Grand Valley State University on Sunday, January 31st in their second and final game of their home at home series.
The Bulldogs travelled to Grand Rapids the night before to take on the Lakers on their home ice. The Bulldogs would fall to the Lakers by a score of 4-6 that night. Jordan Ruelle, Tyler Grimshaw, Myles Maltz, and Gerin Hohl would all score for the Bulldogs in the loss and Jack Clary (2), Eddie Schaeffer, Ryan Betz, John Urmetz, Myles Maltz, Mario Tomei, and Dan Hudon would all grab assists in the loss.
The Bulldogs would once again get on the board first when Gerin Hohl gave the Bulldogs the first lead of the night at the 4:46 mark of the first period. Tyler Grimshaw and Scotty Millen would grab assists on Hohl’s goal. The Lakers would tie the game at exactly 6:00 gone in the first but Jack Clary would answer nearly four minutes later, tying the game once again. Nick Bordeaux and Mario Tomei would grab assists on Clary’s goal. The Lakers would once again tie the game with 16:44 gone in the first and the first would end with a 2-2 tie.
Captain Dan Hudson would tie the game once again at the 5:25 mark of the second period. Paul Gorski and Myles Maltz would be awarded assists on Hudson’s first of the night. Hudson would strike once again at the 7:34 mark of the second, this time with assists going to Tyler Grimshaw and Gerin Hohl. The Lakers would pull within one at the 12:47 mark of the second period. Nick Bordeaux gave the Bulldogs a two goal lead 18 seconds later on the powerplay, firing home a shot from the middle of the circle. Ryan Betz and John Urmetz would tally assists on Bordeaux’s powerplay goal. The Lakers would once again pull within one with less than two minutes remaining in the second but would be held goal-less for the rest of the contest.
The final ACHA D3 Gold goal scored at Arrington Ice Arena in the 2015-16 season was scored by Alex Egan with 1:25 remaining in the third period while the Bulldogs were on the 5-on-3 powerplay.
The final score would be 6-4 in favor of the home team. Justin Lindgren would turn away 35 of the 29 shots he faced and the Bulldogs would rack up a total of 45 shots on goal. The Bulldogs will head to Northwood University for their final league game of the season on Friday, February 5th and will finish off the regular season on Sunday, February 7th in East Lansing before MCHC Playoffs and ACHA North Regional Playoffs.

Eddie Schaeffer would also play his final home game at Arrington Ice Arena on Sunday afternoon. Schaeffer suited up for the Gold team for five seasons and is the last remaining member of the 2012 National Championship winning team to be playing for the Bulldogs and has played a key role in every D3 Gold team since his freshman year. We will miss watching you play Eddie!
