Lewicki's Hat Trick Sends Women's Varsity Past St. Olaf

The Women’s Varsity team took on the St. Olaf Oles for their second and final game of the 2016 Bruiser Bowl on Saturday, January 9th, at Arrington Ice Arena.

Kristin Lewicki started the scoring for the Bulldogs, knocking home her 18th goal of the season off of a rebound from a Sydney Smith shot. Lewicki’s goal, which came at the 7:47 mark of the first, was assisted by Smith and Logan Taylor. Lewicki would grab a shorthanded unassisted goal on a breakaway with only 39 seconds remaining in the period to give the home team a 2-0 lead going into the first intermission. The Bulldogs also led in shots on goal, outshooting the Oles 17-6 after one.

Logan Taylor scored the third Bulldog goal of the game at the 3:12 mark of the middle frame. Taylor’s goal was assisted by Lupi and Lexi Tzafaroglou. Lewicki would complete the hat trick with 39 seconds remaining the period again, this time in the second frame. Lewicki’s hat trick goal would be assisted by Lupi and Kaylyn Schrocka. After two, the Bulldogs would lead 4-0 and outshoot the Oles 30-16.

Taylor would score the only powerplay goal of the game and the final goal of the game 3:53 in the third period. The lone assist on Taylor’s second tally of the night would go to Lewicki. The Oles would sneak one past Brooke Gibson with 15 minutes remaining in the game for the final goal of the night.

The Bulldogs would come out with the 5-1 win, going 2-0 in the second annual Bruiser Bowl and outshoot the Oles 43-22. The Bulldogs would outscore their opponents 15-1 over the weekend and outshoot them 94-33 in the two contests of the Bruiser Bowl, defeating both Manhattanville and St. Olaf.

Logan Taylor, Lexi Tzafaroglou, and Sydney Smith were all named to the all tournament team and Kristin Lewicki earned MVP honors for the weekend. The Bulldogs will travel to Concordia next weekend to take on the Falcons and will return to Arrington Ice Arena on January 22nd when they face Finlandia University at 7:00pm.

***Carly’s Three Stars of the Weekend***

*Kristin Lewicki: Lewicki earned MVP honors for the weekend, which were rightly deserved after she racked up 8 points (5G-3A) in two games and earning a +5 rating over two games. Lewicki had multiple breakaways in both games and easily outskated every single opponent she faced and made great plays all weekend.

**Logan Taylor: Taylor was named to the All Tournament team for the weekend after compiling 9 points in two games (3G-6A). Taylor made play after play, driving the puck to the net and making key passes to teammates all weekend.

***Brooke Lupi: Lupi grabbed 4 points (1G-3A) over the weekend but played an instrumental part in each win. Her grit and tenacity make a difference and her ability to win corner battles helped the Bulldogs immensely over the weekend.
