Mid Season Recap

The first semester has come in gone of the 2015-16 season, the ninth season of Adrian College hockey, is already more than half over. Arrington Ice Arena has played host to nearly 50 games thus far this season. Here’s how each team has fared in the first half of the 2015-16 season.

Men’s Varsity: The Men’s Varsity team had high expectations heading into this season, Coach Adam Krug’s second season behind the bench, after their loss in the NCAA National Semifinals. The Bulldogs dropped their season opener at Milwaukee School of Engineering, the first time that the Varsity team has dropped the first game of the season in program history, but the Bulldogs turned it around and defeated the Raiders the next day and have not lost a game since. The Bulldogs posted an impressive 10-1-1 record and are undefeated at Arrington Ice Arena so far this season.

Players to watch next semester

Connor Armour: Armour is a freshman who is currently tied for first in points for the Bulldogs and has quickly made his mark on the team. Armour posted the only Bulldog goal against a tough U.S National Under-18 team in an exhibition game on November 25th and has continued to impress.

Taylor McCloy: McCloy is a sophomore who did not play in the second semester last season, yet still managed to rank third among the freshman class in points (4G-14A-18pts in 12 games). McCloy flew under the radar for the majority of this semester, dishing out a few assists in the first 7 games, until a two goal performance against Finlandia on 12/4. His speed and skill make him an exciting player to watch.

Women’s Varsity: The Women’s Varsity team has had a remarkable start to their season so far, posting an impressive 8-2 record and remaining undefeated at home. The Bulldogs opened their season on Halloween weekend at the East West Hockey Classic in Vermont, where they bested Elmira College 4-1. The team is currently on a four game win streak and has posted 3 shutouts in the last seven games. The Bulldogs return from winter break on January 6th when they face off against Stevensonsville at Arrington Ice Arena at 7:00pm.

Players to watch next semester

Kaylyn Schrocka: Junior captain Kaylyn Schrocka has impressed so far this season, racking up 6 goals and 7 assists for 13 points, the second most on the team, including 2 game winning goals and two powerplay goals.

Kristin Lewicki: Lewicki has continued to lead the Bulldogs in points this season, tallying a total of 11 goals and 7 assists in only 10 games. Lewicki grabbed her first NCAA hat trick last weekend in a 5-2 Bulldog victory against Marian University. Lewicki currently averages 1.8 points per game.

Men’s ACHA D1: The D1 team is also off to a fantastic start, going 15-2-0-0-1 in their first 18 games of the semester. The Bulldogs opened their season against the Niagara University Purple Eagles on October 3rd at Arrington Ice Arena, where they defeated the Purple Eagles 4-1. The D1 team will be back in action on January 9th when they travel to Illinois to take on Illinois University for a two game series. The Bulldogs will return to Arrington Ice Arena on January 16th when they take on the University of Michigan-Dearborn at 7:30pm.

Players to watch next semester

Brad Kobryn: Kobryn seems to be picking up right where he left off last season, posting 29 goals and 13 assists for a total of 42 points in 18 games, averaging 2.33 points per game. Kobryn also reached the 100 career points mark this past November against the EMU Eagles and now has a total of 119 career points as a Bulldogs and a team leading 42 pts, which includes a ACHA leading 29 goals.

Ted Anstett: Anstett jumped to second in points mid October and is now third overall in team scoring and points after playing on a line and working well with sophomore Brad Kobryn. Anstett currently has 22 points (8G-14A) in 15 games.

Women’s ACHA D1: The Women’s ACHA D1 team is the top team in the country in the standings and second in the power rankings for the first time in program history. The Bulldogs are undefeated on the road with their 2 losses coming at home this season. The Bulldogs defeated the formerly #1 ranked Miami-OH Redhawks this October by a score of 1-0, becoming the first team in over two seasons to shut out the Redhawks.

Players to watch next semester

Alison Dungey: Sophomore goaltender Alison Dungey as had a phenomenal season thus far, shutting out the top team in the league and only dropping two games this season. Dungey was also named the CCWHA goaltender of the month for November. Dungey currently posts a 1.08 GAA and has a save percentage of .944% and has posted 3 shutouts this season.

Kaillie Hardy: Freshman Kaillie Hardy is certainly leaving an impression on the Bulldogs in her rookie campaign, Hardy leads the team in points (22) and goals (12).Hardy has a knack for finding the net and her ability to play a physical game is what makes her stand out.

D3 Gold: The D3 Gold team is doing well under rookie coach and former ACHA D1 Bulldog Max Gavin, posting a 9-4-3 record through 16 games, including ties against tough teams such as Calvin College, Hope College, and Central Michigan University. The Gold team also defeated the defending National Champions, the MIchigan State Spartans, 9-3. The Gold team has 8 remaining regular season games remaining this season, including 3 home games.

Nick Bordeaux: Junior Nick Bordeaux is currently fourth in points for the D3 Gold team and tied for second in goals. Bordeaux is also leading the team in shorthanded goals with 2 and has become an instrumental part of the penalty kill unit.

Alex Egan: Sophomore Alex Egan is having a fantastic sophomore campaign. Tied for first in team scoring (11) and second in overall points (25), Egan has also posted a whopping 7 powerplay goals and two hat tricks this season.

D3 Black: The D3 Black team is a ranked team this season, coming in at #10 in the North Division in the first ACHA D3 ranking this year. The team, led by second year coach and former ACHA D1 Bulldog Kevin Sunde, have posted a 7-8-1 record in the first semester.

Adrien Sebag: Coming all the way from Paris, France, freshman Adrien Sebag is currently leading the Bulldogs in points (28) and goals (13) and is second in assists (15) all while accumulating a whopping 35 penalty minutes.

Andy Petersmark: Sophomore Andy Petersmark is currently second in points and tied for first in assists this season. Petersmark has played in every game so far this semester and is leading by example while wearing the “A” for the Black Squad.

The Bulldogs will soon be back in action at Arrington Ice Arena with the first game being this Wednesday as the Women’s Varsity team takes on Stevenson at 7:00pm. Here’s to the second semester of Bulldog hockey and many more Bulldog victories!
