W. ACHA Comes From Behind to Tie Michigan State
The #2 ranked Women’s ACHA D1 team took on the Michigan State Spartans on Thursday night to wrap up their home at home series with their CCWHA opponent.
The Spartans scored twice in the first period, leaving the Bulldogs down by 2 and outshot 5-12 after twenty minutes of play. The Bulldogs, however, would bounce back for a much better second period. Alecia Tait would tie the game at one with 14:15 gone in the second. Assists on Tait’s goal would go to Tara Wreblis and Nichole Laflamme
The Bulldogs would tie the game up in a dramatic fashion, pulling goaltender Allison Dungey with less than a minute remaining and firing shot after shot at the MSU goaltender. Nichole Laflamme would be the hero, tying the game with a shot through a scrum in the crease that was inhabited by three Adrian players and a few MSU defensemen after the goalie had gotten caught out of the crease. Laflamme’s goal would come with only 37 seconds remaining in the game and would be assisted by Jessie Rushing and Kaillie Hardy.
The game would finish in a 2-2 tie after a scoreless overtime period. The Bulldogs would send 31 shots to the net during the game and Alison Dungey would turn away 22 of the 24 shots she faced in the tie game. The Bulldogs travel to Virginia to take on #1 ranked Liberty University for a two game series on February 5th and 6th. The Bulldogs return to Arrington Ice Arena on February 13th at 7pm for senior night when the inaugural recruiting class will be honored prior to the game.
