Men's Varsity Pummels Lawrence University
The Men’s Varsity team took on the Vikings of Lawrence University on January 29th and 30th at Arrington Ice Arena and outscored the visiting Vikings 13-3 in the two game homestead.
Connor Armour would start the scoring on Friday night, notching his fourth goal of the season at the 11:28 mark of the first period. Bryan Yim and Trevor Boyd would pick up assists on Armour’s first goal of the game. Boyd would grab a goal of his own 26 seconds later on the powerplay, giving the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. Taylor McCloy and Cory Dunn would be awarded assists on Boy’d powerplay goal. The Vikings would pull within one two minutes later, however, Cory Dunn would give the Bulldogs a two goal lead once again at the 14:25 mark with his first collegiate goal. Connor Armour would grab his NCAA leading 22nd assist on Dunn’s goal. Taylor McCloy would close out the scoring in the first at the 18:34 mark of the first with his fifth goal of the season. Michael Hoy and Chase Matson would snatch assists on McCloy’s goal, which would give the Bulldogs a 4-1 lead after the first period.
Lawrence would score 1:11 into the second period, cutting the Bulldogs’ lead to 2. Trevor Boyd would respond four minutes later, tallying his second goal of the game. Bryan Yim and Connor Armour would pick up assists on Boyd’s second. Brent Suave would grab his fourth goal of the season a minute with the lone assist going to Daniel Lisi. The Bulldogs would head back to the locker room with a solid 6-2 lead over the Vikings after forty minutes of play.
Mat Thompson would pick up his 15th goal of the season at the 7:52 mark of the third period. Blake Butzow and Cory Dunn would grab the assists on Thompson’s goal. Connor Armour who began the scoring for the Bulldogs would close out the scoring ten seconds later for his second of the night. Bryan Yim and Cory Dunn would grab assists on Armour’s second of the game. The final score on Friday night would be 8-2 in favor of the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs would come back on Saturday afternoon looking to sweep the Vikings in their season series. Taylor McCloy would notch his sixth goal of the season at the 14:10 mark of the first period with a powerplay goal. Connor Armour and Mat Thompson would notch assists on McCloy’s powerplay goal. The Bulldogs powerplay unit would strike once more in the first period when Chris Leone notched his eighth goal of the season in his 100th career game in a Bulldog sweater with 5 seconds remaining. Connor Armour and Cory Dunn would pick up assists on Leone’s powerplay goal. After one, the Bulldogs were up 2-0 over the Vikings.
Jeremy Olinyk would give the Bulldogs the 3-0 lead three minutes into the second period. Chase Matson and Adam Davies would pick up assists on Olinyk’s first of the night. Olinyk would grab a shorthanded goal less than seven minutes later on an unassisted effort. The Bulldogs would hold a solid 4-0 lead going into the third period.
Daniel Lisi would tally his seventh goal of the season two minutes into the third period. Lisi’s goal would be assisted by Austin Hervey. The Vikings would score their only goal of the game at the 12:57 mark of the third. Final score would be 5-1 in favor of the home team.
Tyler Parks would pick up the win on Friday night and Dillon Kelley would also grab the W on Saturday, leading the Bulldogs to a season sweep of the Vikings. The Bulldogs travel to Wisconsin Steven’s Point next weekend before facing off against the Concordia University (Wisc) Falcons on February 12th and 13th. Prior to the Saturday game, the three graduating seniors will be honored in a pregame ceremony.
