Men's D1 Bounces Back with Win Over Indiana Tech

After dropping their first road game of the season last Sunday to Stonybrook College, the Men’s ACHA DI team looked to bounce back against the Warriors of Indiana Tech.

The Bulldogs were on the board within the first four minutes of the game. Sophomore Matt Schwehr netted his second goal of the season. Junior Chris Derochie would snag the lone assist on Schwehr’s goal, which was scored 3:37 into the game. The Bulldogs would go on the penalty kill and powerplay twice each before the period ended and the score was 1-0 in favor of the home team after the first.

Less than a minute and a half into the second, a scrum ensued in the neutral zone and both Cooper MacClean and the opposing player were given 5 minute majors along with game misconducts, however, the Warriors would be given an extra 2 minute penalty for roughing, giving the Bulldogs their third powerplay opportunity of the night. Junior captain Nick Goettel would send a shot from the point past the Warriors’ goaltender 57 seconds into the powerplay, giving the Bulldogs a comfortable two goal lead. Freshman Tyler Duarte would pick up the assist on Goettel’s powerplay tally. The Warriors would score their only goal of the game at 8:16 gone but Goettel would strike once again with 10:47 gone in the second giving the Bulldogs the two goal advantage once again. Senior Bobby Bodette would be awarded the assist on Goettel’s second of the night. After two periods, the Bulldogs were now up 3-1. Schwehr would pick up his second goal of the game with 8:06 remaining in the game. Senior Andre Rakas and Bodette would be given assists on Schwehr’s second of the night, the final Bulldog goal.

The Bulldogs compiled 24 shots on goal and junior goaltender Matt Schnoes would stop 25 of the 26 shots he faced. The Bulldogs travel to Fort Wayne Saturday to complete the sweep of the Warriors. The D1 team will be back in action at Arrington Ice Arena on November 25th at 7:00pm when they face off against Davenport University.

***3 Stars***

1*Matt Schwehr: Schwehr scored his first two goals as a member of the D1 squad on Saturday night. He also got time on the penalty kill, where he fit well and helped the Bulldogs kill off all 7 penalties that were assessed.

2**Nick Goettel: Goettel recorded two goals on Friday night, one powerplay goal from the point and a shot from the slot while even.

3***Zach Armstrong: Armstrong is all over the ice for Adrian and is constantly going at 100%. Although he’s not the biggest guy on the ice, he is fantastic in the corners and along the boards for the Bulldogs.
