D3 Gold Falls to Rival Hope College
The D3 Gold team squared off against heated rival Hope College for a weekend home at home series this weekend. The two teams tied on Friday night in Holland, final score being 0-0 after three periods and overtime. The rivals would once again faceoff on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 the next day.
The Flying Dutchman struck first, sending the puck past goaltender Justin Lindgren. The Bulldogs would go on the powerplay with 7:29 gone in the game and sophomore Gerin Hohl would send home a powerplay goal 27 seconds later, senior Myles Maltz would grab the assist on Hohl’s goal. The Bulldogs would get goals from sophomores Tyler Grimshaw and Alex Egan before the period would end. Dan Hudson picked up the assist on Egan’s goal, a powerplay goal, and Grimshaw’s goal would be unassisted. After the first, the score was 3-1 in favor of the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs would go on the penalty kill 7:06 into the second period when Scotty Millen was called for boarding. Hope would capitalize on the powerplay and cut the Bulldogs’ lead down to one. Hope would tie the game with 8:29 remaining in the second. Senior Eddie Schaeffer would bury his second of the season on an unassisted effort one minute later to give the Bulldogs the lead once again. Hope would tie the game once again with 57 seconds left in the period on a powerplay goal and the two teams would go back to the locker rooms deadlocked once again, this time with a score of 4-4.
Hope would gain the lead for the second and final time of the afternoon with 7:17 left in the game. Despite many valiant efforts by the entire team, the Bulldogs would fall to the Flying Dutchmen by a score of 5-4.
The Bulldogs compiled 36 shots on goal and Lindgren would turn away 34 of the 39 shots he faced. The Bulldogs will play one more time before the semester break when they travel to Fort Wayne to take on the Indiana Tech Warriors on December 4th at 9:40pm. The Bulldogs will be back at Arrington Ice Arena on Sunday, January 17th at Arrington Ice Arena, game time is 2:00pm.

1* Gerin Hohl: Hohl capitalized on the Bulldogs’ second powerplay, evening the score at 1. Hohl also had multiple quality shots throughout the game.
2**Nick Bordeaux: Bordeaux seems to be the king of the penalty kill this season. Leading the team with 2 shorthanded goals, Bordeaux almost snagged his third shorty of the season this afternoon after gaining possession of the puck on the PK.
3**Eddie Schaeffer: Schaeffer scored the fourth Bulldog goal by stuffing the puck five-hole on the Hope goaltender. Schaeffer had multiple quality shots as well throughout the game.
