W. ACHA Shuts Out GVSU
The W. ACHA team took on the Lakers of Grand Valley State University for a home-at-home weekend series this weekend. The Bulldogs topped the Lakers on the road Friday night, besting GVSU by a score of 3-2, with goals coming from Jessie Rushing, Kaillie Hardy, and Alicia Tait. The Bulldogs would look to sweep the Lakers on Saturday night when they faced them on home ice in Adrian.
Kaillie Hardy notched her second in two games 5:35 into the first period. Nicole Paradis and Alicia Tait would grab assists on Hardy’s goal. Both teams would have powerplay opportunities before the period was over but neither team capitalized on the advantage. After one, the score would be 1-0 and shots would be 10-5, both in favor of the home team.
Hardy wasted no time in the second period, burying her third in two games 1:23 into the second, Paradis would snag the lone assist. The second period did not see any more scoring by either team and no penalties were assessed during the middle frame. The third period, however, was a different story. Nichole Laflamme notched the third Bulldog goa 8:08 into the third on an unassisted effort. In the final ten minutes, five penalties were assessed, three to the Bulldogs and two to the Lakers. The Bulldogs would kill off 1:30 of a 5-on-3 after Laflamme was assessed an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty then Sabrena Camp was called for slashing thirty seconds apart. The Bulldog penalty kill and sophomore goaltender Alison Dungey were phenomenal on the penalty kill, not allowing a single GVSU goal.
The Bulldogs would rack up 30 shots on goal and Dungey would stop all 25 shots that came her way. The Bulldogs improve to 10-2 and extend their winning streak to 7. The W. ACHA team will travel to Lindenwood-Belleville next weekend and will not be back at home until Friday, January 22nd when they face Colorado State at 3pm.
***3 Stars of the Weekend***
1*Alison Dungey- Dungey only allowed two goals in two games and earned a shutout at home, standing on her head much of the third period as the team killed off a 5-on-3.
2**Kaillie Hardy-Hardy tallied four goals in two games, including the game winning goal on Saturday night.
3***Jessica Fabbro-Fabbro plays her position as defense well, however, she creates offense when needed and had several shots on goal along with at least two rushes from end to end during the game on Saturday night.
