D3 Gold Sweeps Lawrence Tech

The D3 Gold team took on the Blue Devils of Lawrence Tech University in a home-at-home series this weekend. The Bulldogs looked to end the Blue Devils’ unbeaten streak as they travelled to Southfield on Friday night. The Bulldogs would shut out the Blue Devils, topping them 4-0 on Friday night with goals coming from Eddie Schaeffer, Jack Clary (2), and Nick Spagnol. The Bulldogs would then travel back to Adrian to take on the Blue Devils on Saturday afternoon.

The score would remain deadlocked at 0 until there was less than three minutes left in the period when they were on the powerplay. Senior forward Colin Gilead took a shot on a breakaway, while being hooked, which would result in a LTU penalty, and sophomore Jack Clary would bury his eighth goal of the season off of the rebound. This play would give the Bulldogs a one goal lead and another powerplay opportunity heading into the second period.

Senior Mario Tomei would give the Bulldogs a comfortable two goal lead 7:38 into the second period, sending home his fifth goal of the year with assists going to senior Nick Hocker and sophomore Alex Egan. Senior Myles Maltz would increase the lead to three off of a pass from Scotty Millen.Exactly two minutes later, Hocker would send one past the LTU goaltender to give the Bulldogs a solid four goal lead. Senior Eddie Schaeffer would get the lone assist on Hocker’s goal. Egan would be called for slashing after the goal and the Bulldogs would go on the penalty kill. Junior Nick Bordeaux gained possession of the puck in the offensive zone during the penalty kill and sent the puck past the goaltender’s shoulder and bardown only fifteen seconds after the fourth Bulldog goal. LTU would pull their goaltender after he let in 5 of the 19 shots he faced. Lawrence Tech would tally a powerplay goal 22 seconds later. Maltz notched his second of the game with 29 seconds remaining in the period, with Mitch Bancroft grabbing the only assist. LTU would sneak one more past sophomore goaltender Justin Lindgren before the period would end with only 9 seconds remaining.

The Bulldogs wasted little time getting on the board in the third as Paul Gorski scored only two minutes into the final frame. Sophomore Tyler Grimshaw and senior Dan Hudson would grab assists on Gorski’s goal. Grimshaw would find the back of the net only 17 seconds later, tallying his first of the afternoon with assists going to Gorski and Bancroft. Clary would grab his second goal of the night and fourth goal in two games with 1:35 left in the game to close out the scoring for the Bulldogs. Maltz and Bordeaux would snag the assists on Clary’s second goal.

The Bulldogs compiled 33 shots on goal and Lindgren turned away 32 of the 34 shots he faced.
