DIII Gold Completes Sweep of Saginaw Valley State

The DIII Gold team took on the Cardinals of Saginaw Valley State University this past weekend in a home at home series. The Bulldogs, led by Nick Bordeaux who buried 4 goals in the first game, would beat the Cardinals in Saginaw Friday night by a score of 9-2. The Bulldogs looked to complete the sweep on Sunday afternoon on their own home ice.

Bordeaux wasted little time putting the Bulldogs on the board only five minutes into the first with a beautiful bardown shot from the top of the circles. Myles Maltz and Josh Pascoe would grab the assists on Bordeaux’s 5th goal in 2 games. Jack Clary would give the Bulldogs a comfortable two goal lead eight minutes later, burying his third goal of the season. Maltz and Pascoe would once again grab assists. The Bulldogs would end the period with a 2-0 lead.

The Cardinals scored two goals in the first thirteen minutes of the second, tying the game at two. The game would only be tied for only 36 more seconds after Mario Tomei sent home his first of the game on the penalty kill after a fantastic breakout play by Pascoe and Clary, who would both pick up assists on Tomei’s goal. The Bulldogs would once again have the lead after two.

The third period saw four Bulldog goals scored, the first by Nick Hocker at the 2:29 mark of the third. Max Ohr and Eddie Schaeffer would be awarded assists on Hocker’s goal. Tyler Grimshaw would give the Bulldogs a 5-2 lead at the 12:06 mark, notching his first of the game with assists from Paul Gorski and Dan Hudson. Grimshaw would also pick up an assist on the next Bulldog tally, a goal from Jake Waldrup, Pascoe would pick up the other assist on Waldrup’s goal. The final Bulldog goal of the night was a powerplay goal from Mitch Bancroft with an assist to Schaeffer with 21 seconds left in the game.

The Bulldogs would complete the sweep of the Cardinals by scores of 9-2 and 7-2. The Bulldogs racked up a total of 46 shots on goal and Justin Lindgren turned away 24 of the 26 shots he faced. The Bulldogs are back at home on November 14th when they face the Blue Devils of Lawrence Tech University.

1*Josh Pascoe: Pascoe compiled a whopping four points in the Sunday afternoon contest, including an assist on the game winning goal after making a successful breakout pass on the penalty kill to teammate Jack Clary.

2**Jack Clary: Clary had the second goal of the game and an assist on what would be the game winning goal after catching a breakout pass from Josh Pascoe on the penalty kill and making a great pass to teammate Mario Tomei before crashing the net, which he did quite well over the course of 60 minutes. Clary also racked up three points the night before at Saginaw Valley State, picking up three assists in the first contest and gathering 5 points over the weekend. Clary is currently tied for third in points with 3 goals and 10 assists for 13 points in 9 games.

3A** Nick Bordeaux: Bordeaux had a highlight reel quality goal, the first goal of the game, when he put the puck bardown over the goalie’s shoulder from between the top of the circle and the blue line. Bordeaux picked up five goals in the weekend series and one assist. Bordeaux is currently fourth in points for the Bulldogs with 6 goals and 4 assists for 10 points in 9 games.

3B***Myles Maltz: Maltz picked up two assists during Sunday's game and one goal and one assist and a whopping six assists and one goal in Friday's contest. Maltz is currently leading the team in points with 76goals and 19 assists for 25 points in 9 games.
