W. ACHA Falls to Michigan in Overtime
The Women’s ACHA squad took on the University of Michigan Wolverines on Thursday, October 8th at Arrington Ice Arena for their third league game of the season.
The Wolverines struck first in the first period with six minutes remaining but Lauren Hughes tied the game for the Bulldogs with two minutes remaining in the period. No goals were scored in the second period, however, a Bulldog goal was waved off by officials although the players on the ice were sure they had scored. The Bulldogs would eventually gain the lead in the third period. Nicole Paradis would tie the game with only a minute and a half left in the game but the Wolverines tied the game with no time on the clock and the game would be heading to overtime. Despite having a penalty shot awarded after a player was dragged down by the Wolverines defense, the Bulldogs did not manage to bury the puck in overtime and the Wolverines would go on to win the game with only 19 seconds remaining in extra time.
Goaltender Allison Dungey stopped 19 of the 22 shots she faced in the loss and the Bulldogs racked up 33 shots on goal, including two overtime shots. The Women’s ACHA team will look to avenge their loss Friday, October 9th when they travel to Yost Arena in Ann Arbor to take on the Wolverines once again and they will return to Arrington Ice Arena again on October 17th when they take on the Miami University (Ohio) RedHawks at 7pm.
