Women's ACHA Squad Tops Victory Honda

The Women’s ACHA squad was back on the ice for their second exhibition game of the season on September 13th when they took on the Victory Honda Women’s Senior A team at Arrington Ice Arena.
This highly penalized game saw 11 penalties called, five on the Bulldogs and six on Victory Honda, including eight in the first period. The Bulldog’s powerplay proved to be the difference in the game with two of four goals coming on the powerplay. Senior Nichole Laflamme opened the scoring for the Bulldogs during their first power play of the game with 3:45 left in the first. Senior Jessie Rushing and freshman Kirstin Labelle picked up the assists on Laflamme’s goal. Rushing buried the second goal of the game with only 16 seconds left in the opening frame, giving the Bulldogs a comfortable 2-1 lead going into the second period. Laflamme and sophomore defenseman Tara Wreblis assisted on Rushing’s goal. The Bulldogs spent much of the first period in the offensive zone, outshooting their opponent 15-5 in the first period.
Victory Honda cut the Bulldogs’ lead in half in the second period, sending the puck past sophomore goaltender Allison Dungey with 11:57 on the clock. Sophomore forward Lauren Hughes gave the Bulldogs a two goal lead once again when she poked the puck past Victory Honda goaltender Brittany Zeches with exactly eight minutes remaining in the period. Victory Honda would score once more before the period ended, but the Bulldogs went into the locker room for the second intermission with a 3-2 lead. Sophomore defenseman Virginia Matherly scored the fourth and final goal of the game with 12:24 remaining in the contest.
The final score was 4-2 and shots on goal were 36-26, both in favor of the Bulldogs. The Women’s ACHA squad is back on the ice on September 25th when they take on the Scarborough Sharks in their third exhibition game of the season.
