Adrian Women's Varsity Hockey Posts Best Record in Team History


The Adrian College Women’s Varsity Hockey team had one of their best seasons in team history this past season, becoming the final team in the NCAA D3 to be undefeated, posting a 20-2-4 record.

The Bulldogs had a 22 game pointstreak before dropping their first game of the year to Wisconsin Stevens Point 2-1.

The Bulldogs captured the NCHA regular season title for the first time in program history with a 15-0-3 record in conference. The Bulldogs narrowly lost to the Concordia University Falcons in the NCHA Semifinal game.

Senior Kelsey Kusch was the biggest story for the Bulldogs this season, breaking the Adrian College Women’s Hockey points record, previously held by Stacy Kempson. Kusch captured the title skating in only 69 games, amassing 111 points (56 goals and 55 assists) in those 69 games. Kusch finished her career with the Bulldogs with 122 points (64 goals and 58 assists) in 78 games with the Bulldogs.

Sophomore powerhouse Kristin Lewicki narrowly beat out Kusch for the lead in points on the Bulldogs, finishing the year with 37 points (12 goals 25 assists).

Sophomore goaltender Jade Walsh stole the show in net, playing nearly fifteen hundred minutes in net for the Bulldogs. Walsh finished the season with a 1.29 GAA .944 save percentage and a 20-2-4 record. Sophomore Brooke Gibson played roughly eighty minutes in net for the Bulldogs, finishing with a .72 GAA and a .962 save percentage.

Senior Kelsey Kusch and sophomore goaltender Jade Walsh were named to the All-USCHO team. Walsh was also selected second team All-American.

Seniors Hannah McGowan, Kelsey Kusch, Michelle Jones, and Kelsey Dupuis all topped the All Academic team in the NCHA. Juniors Emily Duncan and Logan Taylor were also named to the team along with sophomores Sydney Dobbin, Brooke Gibson, Lexie Tzafaroglou, Sydney Smith, and Bailey Robertson. Adrian College had the most players named to the team with 11 players making the cut.

The Bulldogs were captained by their four graduating seniors. Courtney Millar and Hannah McGowan served as captains and Michelle Jones and Kelsey Kusch served as assistant captains.
