19 Players Pick Up Points as MD1 Sweeps Western Michigan




The MD1 team took on the Western Michigan University Stallions this weekend n a home at home GLCHL series.


Sebastian Smith would kick things off with 1:54 gone in the first period of game one on Thursday night at home. Henrik Overvall would make things 2-0 five and a half minutes later with assists from Nash Hatcher and Brenden Stanko. Hatcher would snag his seventh of the year at the 15:25 mark of the first period on an unassisted effort. Overvall would tally his second of the game at the 16:10 mark with the lone assist coming from Stanko.


Brodie Thornton would pick up back to back goals at the 6:34 and 16:36 marks of the second period. Matteo DiGiulio and Dakota Bohn would assist on the first of Thornton's goals while Sebastian Smith and Bohn would assist on the second. DiGiulio would net a goal of his own at the 17:06 mark of the second with the lone assist going to Matthew Cruz.


Sam Spaedt's 19th of the season would come at the 1:08 mark of the final frame. Manny Silverio would pick up the lone assist. DiGiulio would send home his second of the game at the 6:18 mark with Chris Donaldson and Tyler Fyfe assisting. Silverio would pick up the 9th goal of the game a minute after DiGiulio's. Donaldson and Spaedt would assist. DiGiulio would complete the hat trick with 8:35 gone in the third period on an unassisted goal. Spaedt would notch his second of the game at the 11:20 mark with the solo assist going to Ethan McLaughlin. Mason Vaughan's first of the year would be lucky number thirteen with DiGiulio picking up the assist. Overvall would complete his hat trick for the final goal of the game with 13:52 gone in the third with an unassisted goal.


Noah Decottignies would pick up the shutout between the pipes as the Bulldogs trampled the Stallions in game one by a score of 14-0.


The same two teams would square off once again on Friday night in Kalamazoo.


Captain Tyler Fyfe would net the lone goal of the first period at the 14:53 mark. Sheldon Nolan would grab the lone assist.


Brenden Stanko would net back to back goals three minutes apart to triple the Bulldog lead in the second. Nash Hatcher and Dylan Kent would assist on the first while Hatcher and Brodie Thornton would assist on the second. Nolan Baldrica would make things 4-0 thirty seconds after Stanko's second goal with assists from Brayden Morris and Cameron Armstrong. Dylan Kent would net his third of the year at the 9:01 mark of the second with assists from Chris Donaldson and Manny Silverio. The Stallions would net their lone goal of the weekend at the 13:41 mark of the second period to cut the lead to 5-1.


Armstrong would be the sixth player to net a pair of goals on the weekend in the third period, grabbing goals at the 2:43 and 8:38 marks. Morris and Brodie Thornton would assist on the first and Dylan Kent and Henrik Overall would assist on the second. Matteo DiGiulio would close out the scoring with the eighth goal of the game at the 13:11 mark of the third. Donaldson and Nolan would assist.


Dylan Knighton would pick up the win in net for the Bulldogs as they swept the Stallions.


The Bulldogs return to Arrington Ice Arena on Thursday night at 7:30 pm when they take on the Oakland University Grizzlies.
