Adrian College Becomes First School to Field 7 Hockey Teams

Adrian College will officially have seven hockey teams next season (2017-18). The Women's ACHA D2 team was announced over Christmas break and will begin play in the Women's ACHA Division 2 this coming fall. Samantha Fallon, a graduate of University of Massachusetts-Boston, was chosen to head up the Women's ACHA D2 team. Fallon played four seasons at the NCAA DIII level at UMass Boston and graduated in 2016 as the highest scoring player in UMass Boston history with 29g-13a-42pts in 87 career games as well as a two year member of the soccer team. Fallon graduated with a degree in both psychology and sociology. The WACHA D2 team will begin play this coming season and is the 39th sport offered at Adrian College.

"I'm very excited to be a part of the hockey traditions here at Adrian College and follow in the footsteps of the success of both the men's and women's various teams here on campus," said Fallon.  The Bulldogs will also boast a Men's D2 team this coming season. The D3 Gold team will be moving up to ACHA D2 this season as announced on Twitter last week. The logo has been release on Twitter, where you can find them at the username @AdrianMD2Hockey. The school has yet to put out a press release with details on the head coach of the MD2 team, but this article will be updated as soon as they do. With the addition of these two teams, the Adrian College Hockey program grows to seven teams, including the two NCAA D3 teams as well as an ACHA team at every level. Only Liberty University has a team at all five ACHA divisions, while no other school in the country boasts seven hockey teams.

“While seven hockey teams may seem like a lot of team, I would add more if we had more locker rooms, another rink, and additional leagues," said Adrian College president Jeffrey Docking, "The way I look at it, hockey is a beautiful sport that brings tremendous joy to players, coaches, and spectators. Why not create as many opportunities as possible for excellent players to add four more years to their careers beyond high school or juniors? What’s not to like? College hockey at any level is incredibly enjoyable – and I dare say, deeply meaningful to those who play the sport.”

And we couldn't agree more.  Stay tuned right here for all the action of the upcoming season for all seven Adrian College teams.
