MD1's Historic Season Comes to An End
The MD1 team’s historic 2016-17 season came to an end Monday evening as they fell in the National Semifinal game in the 2017 ACHA MD1 National Tournament.
The first twenty minutes went by scoreless between the #2 Bulldogs and #3 Ohio University Bobcats. The Bobcats would grab a shorthanded goal 15:00 into the period for the first lead of the game. Rainer Glimpel would answer four and a half minutes later, evening the score at one a piece before heading back to the locker room for the second intermission.
The Bobcats struck again 30 seconds into the third period to go up 2-1. Ohio would then grab two more goals in the third to grab the 4-1 lead. The Bulldogs would pull the goaltender for an extra attacker in the final three minutes and a Bulldog comeback looked like it was in the works as Marcel Kottek grabbed his first of the tournament with only 2:26 remaining the game.
Despite their most valiant efforts, the Bulldogs would fall to the Ohio Bobcats by a score of 4-2, ending their historic 2016-17 season a game early.
The MD1 team went the entire season without a loss at Arrington Ice Arena this year and set a new program record for most wins in a season and the fewest losses in a single season with their 33-3 record. The Bulldogs also captured the GLCHL Regular season title, only dropping a single game in the regular season this year. This year’s National Tournament run is the farthest that any Adrian MD1 team has made it in the tournament as well.
